Foregoing the bygones

Poetry by Shirsh Sanstuti: ‘A plethora of emotions come spilling / from a package labelled ‘handle with care’’

Shirsh Sanstuti

The cold winds brush against my back,

Acting catalyst to a wave of nostalgia

Causing my train of thought to lose its track,

And as the train crashes

Into the bundle of memories

A plethora of emotions come spilling

from a package labelled ‘handle with care’,

From the bag of promises,

Now long breached.

The unlocked chaotic prison of thoughts,

Momentarily shattering all peace,

Blowing away calmness to yonder,

I try to seal the bundle away again, lest I ponder.

Brushing aside the past that went by,

Heaving on with the pile of ruptured promises and lies

Making sure there’s enough delusions

To go around, cutting away the ties

That once held the truth homebound.

Because when all my attempts at tranquillity go in vain,

I will relight the pyres of my sanity once again.
